Xhosa Cole's 'The Greek Suite' 

Commissioned by Ideas Of Noise, this new work draws inspiration from the rich and diverse collection of Greek Mythology and folklore. Inspired by the stories of Narcissus, Echo, Demeter and Icarus this piece draws on a huge spectrum of textures and sounds capable within the ensemble and explores the different soundscapes generated by a mixture of traditional and non-traditional scores. Written for String Quartet plus flute 'The Greek Suite' promises to mirror the beauty, angst and drama of Greek Mythology.

Handsworth-born Xhosa Cole is an established member of Birmingham’s Jazz and Contemporary music scene. As a saxophonist, Flautist and Composer, Xhosa has played, studied and collaborated with a range of formidable musicians from around the world. In addition to performing a range of improvised and scored music Xhosa is establishing himself as a prominent writer/composer in Birmingham. He has been commissioned along side 10 other composers to write music for Bobbie Jane-Gardeners For Wards project (www.for-wards.co.uk). Xhosa's writing draws influence from his range of listening from hard-bop to contemporary classical and Free improvisation to folk music from across the globe.
